About Us
What started as a bit if fun has developed into a lot of fun!
When I started making gin it was all about trying out new flavours and ideas, to see what would happen and to see if I could make something new and interesting - the result is Number 52, our signature dry gin.
Why 52?
Number 52 was where my gin journey started. It was where our children grew up and a place of many happy memories. Sharing the space with my old MGB, in our old garage, I would spend the evenings trying out different ideas. Spending many cold evening sitting there watching the still expectantly waiting for something to happen, hoping something amazing would appear. Some time it did, sometimes it didn’t, but each time was worth the effort.
Cars have always been my passion. From a young age I had worked on them, largely as the only way, like many, as a young driver I could afford to stay on the road. Then later doing them up and restoring them. The MGB was something that I had bought from a friend and then went on to adapt, develop, improve and eventually crash at Goodwood.
After many hours of work I restored it back to it's former glory with a performance tweak or two so that it could be enjoyed on track. When I needed a race number for the MGB I chose 52, so it seemed fitting that my gin should share this number,
as, in many ways it had shared a similar journey - both being developed in my garage!
Still made from our home Number 52 is now produced in my small craft distillery in a former stable at our house in Northamptonshire. Each batch individually distilled, crafted and bottled on site using traditional method of steeping the botanicals and distilling in a Portuguese Alembic copper still. This produces a very pure spirit with a rich feel in the mouth and a character of its own.
The flavour comes from a blend of more that 10 botanicals that are a combination of citrus flavours with hot and warming spices to produce a subtle distinctive
flavour, with ’sherbetty’ citrus notes it is smooth on the pallet and gently
warming. When paired with a light tonic and garnished with lemon or lime it
provides a refreshing, citrus flavour whenever and wherever you choose to drink
it.
